Our practice began with two oncologists, Dr. Arthur Kales and Dr. Richard Binder, almost 30 years ago. Since then, our practice has grown to meet the needs or our community. Today, we are 18 medical oncologists located in 7 locations throughout the Northern-Virginia area. Our most recent expansion has been to the Fauquier area in Warrenton. Our practice is a community-based practice of board certified medical Oncologists & Hematologists. Our practice also includes outpatient stem-cell transplant services with a world-class, FACT-approved program. The practice features participation in a multitude of research protocols sponsored by national cancer trial commitees (NCI, ECOG) as well as from other sponsors. Where appropriate, this allows us to bring cutting edge cancer care directly to our patients. As a member of US Oncology, our practice has helped our national network of researchers study the various new molecular and biological entities in development and has aided the FDA approval of many new products in the treatment of various forms of cancer.
Meeting the needs of our patients is our primary goal. Each patient is an individual with unique needs. Our staff is dedicated to the fight against cancer - We offer exceptional care without compromise.
Fairfax-Northern Virginia Hematology/Oncologyhas officially begun the transformation towards electronic medical records by implementing US Oncology’s iKnowMed program.
The project will be divided into several phases to incorporate our various locations and will begin with our Fairfax office and central pharmacy this Fall. The implementation process will incorporate the knowledge and skills of many departments: the iKnowMed team, physicians, pharmacy, nursing, laboratory, research, IT and countless others to help facilitate a smooth transition for all.
The advantages of iKnowMed are countless and will benefit our patients, the practice and the insurance payors. Some examples of these benefits are listed below :
- iKnowMed utilizes USOncology clinical pathways and research protocols to help our physicians choose the most effective treatment for our patients with the best possible outcome and efficiency.
- The treatment ordering process helps ensure that the ordered chemotherapy drugs are authorized by the third party payors prior to administration and verifies that all charges are captured and coded accurately.
- iKnowMed utilizes Orchard, another web-based program designed specifically for the laboratory that will increase productivity for our practice by providing immediate results of each patient’s laboratory tests.
As always, our patients will still be able to inspect or obtain copies of their medical information from iKnowMed. Our physicians and staff will also have access to patient information while away from the office through a secure and protected process, regardless of which location or hospital they are in.
We believe that this system will better enable us to provide seamless care for our patients, a value that we hold true in our committed pledge to provide exceptional care without compromise.
