Catholic Healthcare West was founded in the spirit of collaboration, with a commitment to the healing ministry and the heritage of compassionate care and faith of our sponsors.

More than a decade ago, CHW's founders - the Sisters of Mercy of Auburn and Burlingame - knew that collaboration was essential if they were to continue to provide quality health and wellness care to all who needed it in their communities. In 1986, as managed care pressures were beginning to emerge, the two congregations united their health care ministries in a new organization called Catholic Healthcare West. It was a visionary partnership. By combining their 10 hospitals and one retirement and care center, they had access to capital and economies of scale that strengthened their health care ministries and their presence as a major provider of care.

It was always in the founders' vision that CHW would welcome other groups that shared their values and commitment to caring and advocating for the poor. In 1988, the Adrian Dominican Sisters were welcomed as partners in the CHW system, followed by the Daughters of Charity, Province of the West, in 1995. Since then, five more religious congregations have joined CHW as sponsors: the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of Houston, Texas; the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael; the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena of Kenosha, Wisconsin; the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Frankfort, Illinois, and the Sisters of Penance and Christian Charity of Redwood City.

CHW also welcomed a growing number of non-Catholic, community and district hospitals to our system. By partnering with many groups that share our values and commitment to the poor, we expand our ability to build healthy communities in a complex and challenging environment.

Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) - East Valley continues to evolve with the ever-growing Town of Gilbert and its neighboring areas. Our facilities are being built to keep pace with the boom in economy and population. Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, the first full-service acute-care hospital in Gilbert, opened its doors in June 2006 with 92 beds, with plans to double the bed count by the end of 2007, and the potential to reach 400 beds by 2010.

As a smoke-free environment with healing gardens, a concierge service and soothing colors echoed throughout the hospital's design and furniture, Mercy Gilbert Medical Center creates a tranquil and serene setting for all its visitors.

Mercy Gilbert Medical Center is also equipped with the latest technology and wireless capabilities including computerized charting, state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, a PACS information storage system, a 64-slice CT Scanner and a Vocera(r) wireless two-way communication system.

Our high-tech high-touch environment at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center provides a serene environment of healing.

While this is a new facility, it builds on the traditions established by Catholic Healthcare West for more than 100 years in Phoenix. As a strong community advocate, we will work together to deliver compassionate, high quality, and affordable health services, reaching out to the disenfranchised and partnering with others in the community to improve the quality of life for all.
